Fluffy Mashed Rutabaga with Quick Tomato Confit

this … def: Humble. not proud or haughty : not arrogant or assertive ranking low in a hierarchy or scale : insignificant, unpretentious not costly or luxurious Nothing describes rutabaga better. I think I was 25 before I tasted one, the name alone sounded strange enough for me to write off as “weird”, and looks… […]

Whole Roasted Cauliflower with Fontina Cheese Sauce

This is the kind of dish that wins friends. Both those who love vegetables, and those who might be convinced to try only because of the cheese. Savory. Rich. A golden, crackly masterpiece. Comfort feelings reminiscent of those I had when eating deep fried cauliflower and cheddar cheese sauce at the local watering hole with my parents when I was young. Except it’s a little more refined, quite impressive to serve, and wholesome, real food magic.

Silky Smooth White Bean Hummus, Mediterranean Style

The creamiest white bean hummus is easy to make at home! The secret is using tahini, a little water, and a food processor to make it. I love this hummus for snacking on with veggies and crisps, or slathering it on sourdough bread. It turns out so creamy every time and is extra flavorful. I’m […]

Delicata Squash Dessert Pizza

This festive appetizer is an attempt to recreate the quite dated dessert pizza, which defines the 90’s in my mind. You know…. shortbread crust with sweetened cream cheese, berries, kiwi, and canned pineapple, and a glossy glaze made from the pineapple juices. But my palette sways less sugary these days, and my ingredients flow with the seasons. So here’s my my modern version of dessert pizza!

How I Deal With Anxiety In Untraditional Ways

this … I feel like there’s an article telling me how to deal with anxiety in my inbox every day. Or a tweet. Or a Facebook post. They usually talk about the usual. You know, using exercise as an outlet, taking a bath, meditate, find things to distract. But as someone who deals with generalized […]

Life-Changing Gluten Free Biscuits

Life changing. Those are words I don’t typically believe in when it comes to food. It seems to be overused, and maybe a “cried wolf again” term, when one recipe after the other is declared to be the best. But this gluten free biscuit recipe is just that: life changing. Tender, tall, and flaky. Little nooks inside, […]

Three-Spice Pork with Chickpeas and Carrots + Being An Everythingivore

this … There are a lot of food assumptions, judgements, and labels thrown around these days. I get asked at least twice a week if I’m a vegetarian. People assume I don’t eat meat because I post a lot of plant-centric food, and yes, my fair share of sweets. I’m not a dedicated herbivore, or carnivore. I’m an […]

Smoky Tomato Lentils Cooked In Coconut Milk

I’m homesick. We haven’t moved, but I’ve been on the move. To the tune of six times away from home in the last 5 weeks. I tend to tell myself, “You don’t have kids, so go and do as many things as you can.” I almost feel guilty if I pass up a great opportunity, because […]

A Harvest Dinner Party + Fried Polenta Salad

A few weeks ago I hosted my first dinner party. A plated four-course Harvest Meal, built around my favorite fall ingredients and some of my favorite people around the table. Some knew each other, some were meeting each for the first time. But what we all had in common was a love for sharing a meal […]

Blackberry Baked Custard

this … I’m calling this blackberry baked custard, but in all honesty, I’m not sure what it’s technical term should because it literally has a 3 pronged evolution. It changes (unexpectedly) from dutch baby, to claufoutis, to custard, depending on when you eat it. What I do know is that it’s incredibly delicious at any […]

Turmeric Goat Cheese Crostini with Roasted Broccoli

I’m in the midst of a busy month of work travel. The days have been incredibly exciting and long at the same time, trying to complete projects while on and off the road. At the moment I’m home, thinking about the zillion things on my plate (which I did to myself) while sitting outside the CVS Minute […]

Oven Roasted Butternut Squash & Tomatoes with Cardamom Yogurt

Oven roasted butternut squash and tomatoes are at the heart of this unique side dish. 3 years ago this time, I was writing a book all about squash. Every single page; 141 of them and 80 recipes. Bound into paperback, with a stock photo of butternut squash on the front. The twenty some photos inside […]
